physics questions please help!?

with 2 comments

1) The table lists the range of wavelengths in vacuum corresponding to a given color. If one looks through a film that has a refractive index of 1.333 and thickness of 340 nm, which color will be 100% transmitted through the film?
2) The table lists the range of wavelengths in vacuum corresponding to a given color. Which one of these colors will produce a diffraction pattern with the widest central maximum, assuming all other factors are equal?
Colors:
red 780-622
orange 622-597
yellow 597-577
green 577-492
blue 492-455
violet 455-390

I don’t really understand how I would figure these out. SO if you could please explain to me how you got your answer and stuff that would be great thanks!

    Identify this spider?

    with 3 comments

Last night there was a spider in my house (Central Florida) and it was one that I have not seen before. It had SKINNY legs which were possibly just over an inch long and its torso (thorax/abdomen) was about 1/2 to 3/4 inches wide/long. The torso of it was not long, it was about the same length all the way around.. When I first stood up to try to catch it, it got flat and lied on the floor. As soon as i got closer, it ran very fast. I eventually caught it by sucking it up with a vacuum. Please identify this for me… I know its not poisonous or anything
    Its body was all gray

      House smells like dog?

      with 68 comments

I have 2 Boston Terriers, they are both house trained, but the younger one has accidents every now and then, and I usually catch him in the act and clean it right away with the steam cleaner and Urine Out. We have wall to wall carpeting in my whole house besides the kitchen and bathrooms. I bathe them once a month, and they, alone do not smell. I can smell the smell, but my husband doesn’t. My house has this lingering smell..I cant figure out what it is…it smells like wet dog…or dirt, or even a little like pee but doesn’t have that ammonia smell. I have had my carpets and couches professionally steam cleaned recently, and that didn’t seem to work. My house is clean, and we’re not dirty people. I vacuum almost every day, and mop every few days. I clean out the filters to the central ac/furnace regularly, and clean out the vents. I notice that our house gets dusty very quick for some reason, but I dust, when its needed. My dogs are mostly indoors, since we dont have a fence, they only go out for bathroom breaks. I have been in houses where it smells like dog…but my house has a different "dog" smell…it just smells weird. Its not stinky or disgusting, its just a weird smell. How can I get rid of it? I’ve tried Urine Out, candles, air fresheners, carpet powders…I dont know what else to try!

Why are Air Conditioners so freaking loud?

        with 205 comments

Recently moved into a non-central-AC house and bought two brand new window unit air conditioners of different brands of average quality. Less than a couple months into use, it seems they got louder? How do people sleep at night with this vacuum-cleaner sounding thing? Haven’t window units been around for decades? It’s 2011 and they still sell the same old heavy noisy units except with a digital display and efficiency setting Why hasn’t any of the manufacturers fixed the noise issues? What is in those machines that make this kind of noise?

RV Product Spotlight: Dirt Devil Central Vacuum presented by RV Education 101

            with 7 comments

rvconsumer.com This RV Product Spotlight is an excerpt from Mark’s RV Garage Episode #7 by RV Education 101 www.youtube.com Dirt Devil CV950 Central Vacuum with BONUS MAXUMizer Deluxe Tool Kit: When we go camping in the RV something that needs to be done quite often is to clean the floors and other areas of the RV with a vacuum cleaner, especially with kids and dogs running in and out. One problem with this is finding a space big enough to store a bulky vacuum cleaner and then getting it in and out every time you need to use it. I could understand the frustration so I decided to surprise Dawn by installing a Dirt Devil central vacuum cleaner designed for RVs. I installed the vacuum cleaner in an out of the way place, but have it accessible on the interior whenever we need it. ~ Mark Polk Available at Camping World www.campingworld.com

              base for small bell jar.?

              with 4 comments

ok so i need s base for a small bell jar. I want the jar to be seven inches internal, under eight outside. i have 10 mm mild steel plate. I have edwards pump to use. The base plate is 8*8 inch. The surface is a little warn. What should i place between the jar and plate.. I plan on putting a metal cage round it for safety. The project is a small home fusion reactor. People say they wnt work. But my physics teacher has checked my maths and thinks it could. I will use a high pd to accelerate deuterium towards inner grid. Anyways basically its going to have high vacuum. What is the best way to attach the jar t base plate, would a cushion of silicon sealant do? I will machine holes into base. I plan on having a central inlet for electrode and outer one. As well as a 10mm hole for vacuum outlet. What should i use for the protective mesh around it? thanks.

Physics help please!!!! How do you do this question?

                with 13 comments

Light of wavelength 708 nm in vacuum is incident on a single slit whose width is 1.60 × 10-5 m. The setup is then immersed in water whose index of refraction is 1.33. What is the angle θ that locates the third dark fringe with respect to the central bright fringe?
