Will Dyson vacuum accessories fit a standard 1 1/4" vac hose?

with 2 comments

I would like to use a Dyson floor tool with my central vacuum system. The system uses a hose with a 1 1/4" diameter attachement port.

Does anyone know what the inside diameter of a Dyson floor attachment tool is? Or if it will ft a standard vacuum hose?

I mean vacuum power. The vacuum motor turns on, but no suction power. Sorry for the confusion. JS
I opened outlet – did not finnd any obstruction. I tried to suck out by inserting a powerful vacuum hose, and now a little bit (10% of what you get in other outlets).

    Please help with any ideas.

How does my central vaccuum know when to turn off, and why isn't it turning itself off?

    with 3 comments

It’s a Nutone model CV-353-C. Usually it turns on automatically when the vacuum hose is plugged into the port in the wall (this step works), and turns off when it is removed. Lately, however, it tends to either run for awhile longer after the hose is removed, or it doesn’t turn itself off and I have to go to the power unit to unplug the power cord. Any ideas? Thank you.
Thanks for the answers so far. I did take the port off the wall and discovered that yes, there are two brass-like pins in the port that are triggered when the metal vacuum tube is plugged into the wall and completes the electrical circuit. I cleaned all the ports and re-assembled, but I’m still getting the non-stopping problem in spite of all this. Strange problem… it turns on no problem, but is slow to turn off (if at all). It should turn off immediately. I guess I may have to replace the one port, even though it seems to be fine. I have no idea why it doesn’t kick out once that circuit is broken by removing the metal vacuum tube.
Thanks for the follow up, Bill. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

    1) I removed and cleaned all the ports, and reattached all low-voltage wires.

    2) I suspect one of the ports over the others because it is the one that seems to trigger the problem more than others. One website suggested that there may be a short at that port, and that it may help to switch the wires around to the opposite pole (I really don’t see why this would matter), so I did that.

    3) I put electrical tape around the wires as far as I could, even though there is no obvious bare patch, and put some tape over the bolt heads, thinking maybe their was current running through the wall box.

I will follow your suggestion about disconnecting the low voltage wires at the vacuum motor when I get a chance. It doesn’t seem possible that there’s any shorts at the receptacle, but what do I know? :-) I will gladly replace the receptacle if that’s the case. Sounds cheaper than getting the solenoid fixed. Thanks again, Bill.

How do you unclog the vacuum hose on a Sharp Professional Canister Vac?

      with 5 comments

I have a Sharp Professional canister vacuum cleaner (full size) and the vacuum hose seems to be clogged. Does anyone know how to blow the air out the other way to unclog it? I’ve detached the hose from the unit, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out what to do next! Thanks!
