Will Dyson vacuum accessories fit a standard 1 1/4" vac hose?

with 2 comments

I would like to use a Dyson floor tool with my central vacuum system. The system uses a hose with a 1 1/4" diameter attachement port.

Does anyone know what the inside diameter of a Dyson floor attachment tool is? Or if it will ft a standard vacuum hose?

        without comments

wwe.angieslist.com – Few of us enjoy dragging the vacuum cleaner around the house – especially up and down the stairs when it’s time to clean. A central vacuum system could be a great investment in your next home.

          Low maintenance house ideas?

          with one comment

I want to build a garage with an apartment that has the least amount of maintenance possible.

So what type of roof is best?, what is better brick, wood, vinyl siding?, etc. Should I have central heating and a central vacuum system?

What types of interiors are the lowest maintenance? Wood floors, rugs, tile? What type of counter tops are the best? What furniture should I use?

And for a single person what square footage would be best for the least amount of cleaning but most space possible?

I’m sure I missed allot of things so feel free to throw in your own ideas about things I missed.

          Thanks!

            I think I have done something dreadful…?

            with 5 comments

OK, so we had some field mice in the house (does that make the house mice?) One was so stupid it walked into a trap without bait, just a plastic cheese looking thing! Whap it got it. I reset the trap and it went off again but I never found the trap. So I buy a few more traps, bait with peanut butter, mice lick off the PB and don’t get wacked!

Tonight I saw a mouse behind a piece of furniture and whacked it with an aluminum yardstick, thought I got it but later I heard it again. So I fired up the central vacuum system and went mouse hunting, fwoop it went into the hose, is that right?

Should I toss a few moth balls down to finish it off or what?

I don’t know how I’ll be able to sleep thinking about those beady little eyes looking at me as I poked the hose end at it.
"Use a humane trap next time…..
then you can let him go and not feel guilty :) "

Are you kidding, how exactly am I supposed to get a enraged rat off a sticky trap, OH right soak it in boiling water it should loosen right up!

            average cost per month?

            with 4 comments

on average. how much per month do utilities cost?

I’m looking at an apartment and this is what it says:
The one bedroom apartments are 940 sqare feet (see a layout below), and include a large living/dining room area. The very full-featured kitchen boasts these amenities:
            – in-sink garbage disposal,
            – dishwasher,
            – large refrigerator,
            – gas range/cooktop with fan/light hood,
            – and a good-sized pantry!
The cabinets are of beautiful oak construction, with lots of storage space.

There is also a cozy den down the hall. The private bedroom features a half-bath and spacious walk-in closet.

Each unit offers a central vacuum system, as well as central (gas) heat and air conditioning.

There are ceiling fans in every room to help provide comfort in all seasons. Oh, and cable TV and phone plugs are in every room as well, for your convenience.

Utilities are completely separate for each apartment. The circuit-breaker box and hot water heater for your unit are in your apartment, for your convenience!

The full bathroom is in the hallway, between the kitchen and the den, making it easy to get to from anywhere in the apartment. The shower is at step-in height, for easy access.

There are coin-laundry facilities on each floor in the eight unit buildings as well.
            ______________________________

that costs 750/month for the apartment which is 940 square feet
there is a 2 bedroom apartment for less money because of the space it has (740 per square feet)

            http://www.oehlertrentals.com/index.html

            that is the website

I am allowed 2 pets of any size except for pit bulls
which is a huge reason why I am wanting this apartment

it used to be for old people. but now its for anyone

about how much money should I make per month to support myself, my great dane, and in the far future-possibly an english mastiff

I do not need television. and I will have a laptop. so I would need internet for that.

            thanks everyone!!
and any advice would be GREAT!
my dane comes to work with me
she really doesnt need much space. she’s super lazy
            she’ll fit just fine there
            I’m in IL
I don’t think I’ll use the dishwasher very much.
I’m only moving out because my dane and my boxer arent getting along. at all. and it will only get worse as they age

If I don’t get out soon. I would need to rehome one
I’ll probably go to eat with my family quite a bit too. since they will only be 5 minutes away.

Are built-in vacuums a good investment for a home?

            with 3 comments

I saw a television show where a woman had a central vacuum system, and I’ve only seen them in salons. I’m thinking it’s not too common and probably something worth installing into the home. I’d like to hear feedback from anyone who has had experience with it. Thanks.
