Are my parents too strict?

with 5 comments

My brother and I are feeling like we have very strict parents. They will not let us play any violent video games at all (stuck on the "promotes violent behavior" thing). Also they wont let my brother (who’s 15) get in a vehicle with another friend who has a license unless there is a adult in it. Right now I’m 12 and they wont let me have Facebook. they also follow ratings on movies quite seriously (same with video games, violent or not). But the thing that really gets on my nerves is that we both get above 90% in all subjects, we do dishes everyday (and our parents cook Indian food), and we vacuum the entire house every 3 days cause we have a cat. what do you think?

    Pokemon Soul Silver Team ratings?

    with 3 comments

(WARNING: Experienced Pokemon Players should answer this one)

Greetings everyone! I’ve recently came in contact with the Pokerus… somehow. (A virus that doubles the amount of Effort Value’s received for the pokemon stats from leveling up.) So I decided to catch and breed as many Pokemon possible. As of now, I am about to get my Sixth Badge and I haven’t battle Team Rocket yet. I am trying to create a good pokemon team meant for Competitive battles. (I grow bored of computer driven battles and non-competitive battles…)

Here is my current Pokemon team:

    -Quilava
LV: 23 Item: Charcoal Nature: Rash
Tackle, Fire Blast, Flame Wheel, Smokescreen
    -Scyther
LV: 24 Item: None Nature: Adamant
Vacuum Wave, U-Turn, Pursuit, Focus Energy
    -Kadabra
LV: 25 Item: Twisted Spoon Nature: Naive
    Teleport, Confusion, Psybeam, Headbutt
    -Murkrow
LV: 20 Item: Sharpbeak Nature: Lax
    Peck, Astonish, Fly, Shadow Ball
    -Rhyhorn
LV: 23 Item: None Nature: Jolly
Horn Attack, Hyper Beam, Leer, Headbutt

    NOTES/QUESTIONS:
    - It would be better if I knew what my sixth pokemon would be… any ideas? Are there any good water pokemon or electric pokemon in mind? Maybe things like Kingdra or Magneton… Ya’ll can make a call on this and/or give suggestions.
    - ALL of pokemon were bred and they ALL either have the pokerus on them or they previously had it
    - I have NO intention on catching any Legendary pokemon for two reasons: 1) Many scrubby or less-experienced pokemon players are likely to have these pokemon because they can’t raise their pokemon properly. 2) They are USUALLY not allowed in competitive game tournaments anyway.
    - The main objection for my team are these: (Typhlosion, Rhyperior, Alakazam, Honchkrow, Scizor and… any water or electric pokemon.)

I am about to trash the sixth Gym Leader and then head over to Team Rockets hideout. Are there any ideas for what I should be doing next? Please rate my team as it is now, make suggestions and let me know about type disadvantages, certain movesets, etc. I could just do research of my own and go to the forums… but… I would rather hear answers from other peoples perception for myself and prepare myself for competitive gameplay. Sorry… But, it gets really monotonous and boring playing around with computer opponents… and I’ve only recently bought Soul Silver so…

Is Powell "right", and will he or someone like him lead the Republicans out of the wilderness?

    with 10 comments

Colin Powell stirred up the Republican Party’s very public internal debate about the direction of the party and asserted it’s losing because it doesn’t appeal to moderates like him. The Republican Party is losing "men, woman, white, blacks and Hispanics," says Colin Powell.

Two Republican leaders questioned Powell’s GOP credentials. Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh said Powell should leave the party. Former Vice President Dick Cheney said he thought he already had. Powell says he’s still very much a Republican and said the party would be better off to include more moderates like him.

"The Republican Party is losing north, south, east, west; men, woman, white, blacks and Hispanics," Powell said in an interview with CBS’ "Face the Nation."

"I think the Republican Party has to take a hard look at itself and decide: What kind of party are we?" As it has squabbled within the family, the party has wandered. Most analysts say it will get back on the right track when its next leaders emerge.

The Republicans’ family argument started shortly after the Democrats won the White House and added to their control of Congress. Conservatives blame moderates for the losses, saying the party didn’t present a contrast with Democrats and the only way for it to be successful is to lean harder to the right.

Limbaugh and Cheney emerged from the leadership vacuum. Limbaugh from his legions of listeners and Cheney in his emergent role as the sole defender of the Bush White House. Powell provoked Limbaugh when he suggested the GOP’s future was in peril if it went in the Limbaugh’s direction. Limbaugh responded that Powell is part of the "stale, the old, the worn-out GOP that never won anything."

Powell says the right has alienated undecided and independent voters and the only way for the GOP to return to power is to expand its narrow base. The former Pentagon commander of the 1991 Persian Gulf war has for the most part stayed out of politics since resigning as President’s Bush’s secretary of state in Bush’s first term.

Among Republicans, Powell, Cheney and Limbaugh are equally revered with favorability ratings in the 60s, according to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll.

But among all voters questioned, Powell has a favorability rate of 70 percent compared to 30 percent for Limbaugh. A poll a week ago found that Cheney had a favorability rate of 37 percent.

"Colin Powell is not the guy you want to pick a fight with," Schneider said. "He’s more popular than Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh combined. Between the two polls, Limbaugh’s unfavorable rating among all respondents was 53 percent and Cheney’s 55 percent.

Former Homeland Security secretary Tom Ridge, another moderate, sided with Powell. The former Pennsylvania governor said the different wings of the party need to listen to each other and differences of opinions need to be less divisive. "Rush Limbaugh has an audience of 20 million people. A lot of people listen daily to him and live by every word. But words mean things and how you use words is very important," Ridge said.

"It does get the base all fired up and he’s got a strong following," Ridge continued. "But personally, if he would listen to me and I doubt if he would, the notion is express yourself but let’s respect others opinions and let’s not be divisive." Ridge, who ruled out a Senate bid earlier this month, also called for an end to personal attacks.

"Let’s lead our party based on some principles that have been very much a part of who we are for decades. And let’s be less shrill … and particularly, let’s not attack other individuals. Let’s attack their ideas," said Ridge. .

On another talk show, former George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove, who served with Powell and Cheney in the White House, took Limbaugh’s side, saying he would choose the radio host over the former secretary of state if he "had to pick between the two," in an interview on "Fox News Sunday." Do you think my neighbors will be able to hear my sub woofer in my apartment ?

    with 10 comments

This is my first home theatre package I bought…so I’m a little uneducated when it comes to the power ratings and how loud they are.

Here is my set : http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HT-TX75-Home-Theater-System/dp/B000PU6MBQ

There are 2 sets connections on the back of the sub….and I only have 1 set plugged in….plus its on its lowest setting (-6)

I currently have it sitting on a book, which is sitting on a roll of packing tape to lessen the contact with the ground (ghetto?) until I get my SubDude

I keep it low all the time….i dont watch movies….but the loudest things are like explosions during PS3 games.

The walls are concrete….but when the person above me vacuums, its pretty loud….its woken me up when shes decided to vacuum at 8 a.m. on a saturday…. So im worried about the people below me.

Do you think they will be able to hear it without the subdude? With subdude ?

Who's winning the war between the boy trying to act like our president and FoxNews?

    with 11 comments

Who’s Partisan Now? – The Press as Paladin of a Presidency

    By Jeffrey T. Kuhner

President Obama has declared political war on the Fox News Channel. He refuses to appear on Fox News – at least for the rest of this year – and has unleashed his administration’s attack dogs. The goal is to vilify the network’s hard-won reputation.

"What I think is fair to say about Fox – and certainly it’s the way we view it – is that it really is more a wing of the Republican Party," said Anita Dunn, White House communications director, on CNN. "They take their talking points, put them on the air; take their opposition research, put them on the air. And that’s fine. But let’s not pretend they’re a news network the way CNN is."

Ms. Dunn’s comments are a blatant attempt by the White House to delegitimize and undermine Fox News’ journalistic credibility. The administration is seeking to portray the network as a media arm of the Republican Party.

This is false. It has repeatedly highlighted Republican Party scandals – former Rep. Mark Foley of Florida, lobbyist Jack Abramoff, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford – as well as the wasteful spending and runaway deficits that took place under President George W. Bush. When the war in Iraq was going badly prior to the 2007 troop surge, Fox News did not shy away from covering negative stories on the ground.

Contrary to its slogan, however, Fox News is not "fair and balanced." It is clearly a center-right network, where conservative commentators outnumber liberal and centrist ones.

Moreover, Fox’s news operation also slants conservative not so much in its coverage, but in the choice of topics: fiscal irresponsibility, the expansion of big government, an imperial judiciary, the war on terrorism, radical Islam, crime, teenage out-of-wedlock pregnancy, and the culture wars. Many of these issues are downplayed or ignored by its rivals.

In other words, Fox has filled an ideological vacuum left by the likes of CNN and MSNBC. The reason its ratings are soaring while its competitors are declining is that Fox consciously – even proudly – caters to God-fearing, gun-toting, red-state viewers. It speaks to the populist, patriotic and conservative values embodied by Middle America – principles that have been consistently mocked by media elites.

Fox is despised by the Obama administration and its leftist media allies in part because of its success and profitability. Moreover, Fox is feared because its growing power stands as an indictment against the desiccated liberal establishment.

For decades, the Washington press corps has presented itself as the guardian of political order and institutional stability. They are the real "news experts" whose experience and rational judgment are necessary to preserve "fairness" and "objectivity." The rise of Fox News and the New Media – Internet news sites, such as the Drudge Report, World Net Daily and Newsmax, along with talk radio – has ripped away that shallow, smug and self-satisfied journalistic veneer.

The emergence of Fox News is a sign many Americans no longer trust the political and media class. It is part of a larger populist revolt that is slowly reshaping our society. The American people crave government accountability and political transparency. Moreover, many in the heartland rightly sense that something has gone terribly wrong. They are slowly losing their country to globalist progressives who no longer share any attachment to traditional America.

For Ms. Dunn and the White House, Fox News’ real transgression is not its purported links to the Republicans. Rather, it has given expression to this populist-patriotic resurgence by covering the "tea party" protests and the heated town-hall meetings on Obamacare, as well as exposing the neo-Marxist radicalism of former green jobs czar, Van Jones, and the rampant corruption at ACORN (the activist Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now).

Mr. Obama occupies the White House in large part because of a sycophantic, fawning press corps. They carried him all the way to power. During the campaign, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews even declared that Mr. Obama’s speech "sent shivers up my leg." Mr. Matthews’ statement captured the establishment media’s incestuous relationship with the president. It has abrogated its sacred duty to be critical and skeptical of political leaders – regardless of party affiliation.

It is only natural for Ms. Dunn to claim that, as opposed to Fox, CNN is a genuine news network. Mr. Obama’s team is accustomed to soft media treatment. In fact, they expect it. And it is what they have received from CNN – even to the point of appearing ridiculous. CNN’s Wolf Blitzer – I could not make this up – did a "fact check" to defend the president’s policies from a "Saturday Night Live" skit. This is how desperate CNN has become to prop up Mr. Obama’s dwindling poll numbers.

For decades, The Washington Post, the New York Times, CNN, CBS News, AB
racism is unbecoming has no way to get to her says,""the boy"? Your racism is showing, hon. And FOX News is an arm of the Republican Party, and does not provide news. Instead, they provide opinion and propaganda."

Someone must pay you to be stupid.

My Eureka vacuum 12 amp 120 volt AC switch melted and I found an almost identical 10 amp 12 volt DC one at an Auto (Place) parts store (except for the LED light). Why are the current ratings different for the same size switch especially when the DC one warned that it was a light duty switch not to exceed the current rating?!!!
