Will Dyson vacuum accessories fit a standard 1 1/4" vac hose?

    with 2 comments

I would like to use a Dyson floor tool with my central vacuum system. The system uses a hose with a 1 1/4" diameter attachement port.

Does anyone know what the inside diameter of a Dyson floor attachment tool is? Or if it will ft a standard vacuum hose?

      physics questions please help!?

      with 2 comments

      1) The table lists the range of wavelengths in vacuum corresponding to a given color. If one looks through a film that has a refractive index of 1.333 and thickness of 340 nm, which color will be 100% transmitted through the film?
      2) The table lists the range of wavelengths in vacuum corresponding to a given color. Which one of these colors will produce a diffraction pattern with the widest central maximum, assuming all other factors are equal?
      Colors:
      red 780-622
      orange 622-597
      yellow 597-577
      green 577-492
      blue 492-455
      violet 455-390

I don’t really understand how I would figure these out. SO if you could please explain to me how you got your answer and stuff that would be great thanks!

        Identify this spider?

        with 3 comments

Last night there was a spider in my house (Central Florida) and it was one that I have not seen before. It had SKINNY legs which were possibly just over an inch long and its torso (thorax/abdomen) was about 1/2 to 3/4 inches wide/long. The torso of it was not long, it was about the same length all the way around.. When I first stood up to try to catch it, it got flat and lied on the floor. As soon as i got closer, it ran very fast. I eventually caught it by sucking it up with a vacuum. Please identify this for me… I know its not poisonous or anything
        Its body was all gray

I'm a new nanny – how much should I charge?

            with 71 comments

I would be working about 30 hours per week during the day. There are two children. One child is 21/2 years old and the other is a newborn – 4 weeks old. The family is upper middle class and we live in central Ohio. I would not be living with the family.

I would be cleaning up after the children and cooking for them, as well as engaging in housework – vacuuming, laundry, and dishes. I will also be driving them to summer camps, grandparents, parks, zoo, etc. I have a Bachelor’s degree with concentration in childhood development and 10+ years of babysitting experience.

How much should I charge per week? I do not want to charge too low or too high.

                House smells like dog?

                with 68 comments

I have 2 Boston Terriers, they are both house trained, but the younger one has accidents every now and then, and I usually catch him in the act and clean it right away with the steam cleaner and Urine Out. We have wall to wall carpeting in my whole house besides the kitchen and bathrooms. I bathe them once a month, and they, alone do not smell. I can smell the smell, but my husband doesn’t. My house has this lingering smell..I cant figure out what it is…it smells like wet dog…or dirt, or even a little like pee but doesn’t have that ammonia smell. I have had my carpets and couches professionally steam cleaned recently, and that didn’t seem to work. My house is clean, and we’re not dirty people. I vacuum almost every day, and mop every few days. I clean out the filters to the central ac/furnace regularly, and clean out the vents. I notice that our house gets dusty very quick for some reason, but I dust, when its needed. My dogs are mostly indoors, since we dont have a fence, they only go out for bathroom breaks. I have been in houses where it smells like dog…but my house has a different "dog" smell…it just smells weird. Its not stinky or disgusting, its just a weird smell. How can I get rid of it? I’ve tried Urine Out, candles, air fresheners, carpet powders…I dont know what else to try!

1000 dollar vacuum broke and we can't return it ? Any advice ?

                    with 9 comments

So my parents on the advice of my aunt, bought a central vacuum, one for a thousand dollars. I used the vacuum 3 times and then the main vacuum ended up burning out . The vacuum guy came over and said that we have too many wool rugs and that we can’t use the vacuum because of the amount of rugs we have. Reading the manual your not supposed to use it on Fur, Wool or Dust, they can’t return the vacuum and the guy said we can repair it for 500 dollars. When my parents thought about buying I said ‘ Hey why don’t you guys by a dyson they are only 500 dollars and don’t need holes in the walls to work", but they didn’t listen to me but my aunt . The company doesn’t give a crap, we should have read the instructions and they won’t take it back. What would you do in this situation ?
